Risa Hontiveros' "Epal" Bus Ad


"I am a supporter of Risa Hontiveros because I believe in her and in her track record as a legislator. Pero, bali-baliktarin n’yo man ang mundo, EPAL act ito - kahit gawan pa ng criteria kung ano ang epal o hindi, like sabihing this is not an epal act because no government money was spent for this advertisement. Making lusot out of this criteria (kahit ipagpalagay nating totoo naman) ay lumang tugt...ugin na rin."
He continues with "Eh di ba we’ve heard of Trapo A, Trapo B o Trapo C before na nagpagawa ng streamer para sa Operation Tuli project nila bearing the logo of their offices at galing daw sa bulsa nila ang pinampa-imprenta ng mga tarps nila at wala daw silang ginastos ni singkong duling galing sa pondo ng bayan? In reality, wala namang paki ang mga tao kung epal ‘yan o hindi based on certain qualifications, kasi in the surface it is obviously looking epal. Ang sasabihin lang naman ng mga tao, umeepal ‘yan, akala ba namin galit siya sa epal? Perception wise, she is epal! This is an act of an epal that people are familiar about. Sa paningin ng mga tao ngayon, isa nang epal si Madam at wala na siyang ipinagkaiba sa mga pulitikong epal. ‘Yan na ang epekto nitong advertisement na ito. Na-erode ng slight ang credibility ni Madam! Huwag n’yong sasabihin na wala kayong paki sa kung ano ang sasabihin ng tao! It matters! Kaya kung sino man ang may idea nitong ka-epalan na ito, tumalon ka na sa building teh, dahil minus points si Madam sa eksena na ito. Nowadays, people will truly see this as Epalism. But just how do we let deserving newbies introduce themselves without looking epal?

It hurts to admit the reality that these candidates are forced to do this...again ...because of the kind of voters we have.

Most voters would rely on popularity as the basis of their choice. Many would even prefer to vote for the good looking ones. This was why celebrities were sort of sure winners back then, and these factors still resonate as the prime motivator for many in picking their winners.

Though some have gone wiser, a vast majority are still being brainwashed by the ads that proliferate through billboards and other propaganda materials scattered all over the metro.
